this is because part of the library that is bundled with that build
comes originally from the linux package. it adds methods that relay on
emacs.

hmm no. carbon builds run in the gui (out of the term) as native mac
os x apps do.
carbon means its based on the carbon api for mac os x.

there is something out there exactly like you want - sc in vi.
search the list and swiki.
but first you have to get sclang booting fine on the term - which from
your msg, its already working.
