this issues are related to the apple audio fw driver, i had same  
behavior with cards from other manufacturers, that are using this  
driver, when i plug them there is a constant cpu usage of 6-10% with  
out running any audio application; but the is a new audio fw driver  
on the way, available in firewire sdk 2.3 at adc, i've not tested if  
it solves this cpu usage issue.
  if i had the ca$h would buy a metric halo or rme interface.
