[sc-users] anti-phase?

A somewhat vague question:

I have loads of similar stereo sound files which sound good when  
played back individually (PlayBuf, BufRd).

Using them in Pbinds I occasionally got clicks ( at the beginning of  
a buffer playback ).
The playback is often overlapping several of them (each sound its own  
event).
I used to have envelopes and a gate arg in the SynthDefs, no looping.
I tried many variations of Envs and EnvGens, always getting  
unpredictable glitches sometimes.

Now I realised that there are no glitches when there is no envelope,  
therefore no gate arg, but a FreeSelfWhenDone in the def.

Why could that be?
Too much anti-phase in the files (they are "wide") ?
