"stored" and "written to disk" suggest that you are talking about
archiving or programmatically storing objects to disk.

Are you trying to tell me that you are just referring to you the user
saving the text document to disk ?

but then you said "optionally have the scsyndef written at the same
time,"  which obviously means you aren't just talking about the user
manually saving their text files.
