I see. Hmm, one might respond that in this case Instr is a
heavyweight solution to a lightweight problem. It's also not in the
standard library, and I feel this could be generally useful.
Of course one might respond to that that this is more heavyweight
than is generally needed, although it would be pretty light, and in
fact optional.
If this were added, Instr could be adjusted to make use of it, so
there need be no duplication.
