I would love to see some standardization out there. I do have the  
feeling that it is very important to not make the OSC protocol more  
difficult to implement. One of the reasons that MIDI was so successful  
is its simplicity to implement. Adding any kind of statefulness would  
be detrimental to that goal.

However, having OSC apps being able to automatically talk to each  
other would be great! I would look more into how things on the web are  
being solved right now. Microformats are the first thing that springs  
to my mind.

So I would say, keep the spec stuff out of the app. Agree on certain  
conventions (see REST for instance). Good apps will follow these.  
Users will request this kind of interoperability (huh, why do you do  
it different than all my other apps?).
